Swimming is another sport which you would not immediately consider as part of a fitness regime for skiers. But hang on –
Ask any asthmatic and they will tell you it is great for breathing and developing the lungs which certainly helps at high altitude.
Swimming is a non contact, none weight bearing, no impact sport. Obviously this cuts down the risk of injury immensely and provides a great environment for anyone unfit, overweight or with otherwise limited mobility to make a start on their exercise regime. It’s all good!
For the more hard core it presents an opportunity to continue training but without giving tired joints yet more punishment.
So it’s a great way to get you started and/or to supplement a heavy training regime or as part of a cross training regime. Go on, jump in and swim!
