Snowcamp by Joe Beer

Snow Camp (www.snow-camp.org.uk),is a charity very close our hearts at ALC .

Every year Snow Camp host a “City drinks and summer auction”. We’re glad to say that things are growing for them and we were lucky enough to go along to support the event and even supplied them with one of the prizes for their auction. There were many differing levels of lots, ranging from the biggest at £10,000 for an all inclusive chalet holiday to lots of more affordable items, like our half day lesson for up to 6 people.

Snow camp are a young charity set up to support getting youngsters into Snowsports who might otherwise never have the opportunity, mainly inner-city and underprivileged kids. Through mentoring and networking they help them become involved in many aspects of the Snowsports industry. Opportunities include helping with administration at indoor slopes, work experience at various offices of Snowsports businesses and having BASI (British Association of Snowsports Instructors www.basi.org.uk) sponsor some of the successful DSC_0960candidates attend their L1 instructor course, helping them to get a career in Snowsports. They have recently had some good successes proving their method is working. Some of the apprentices have gained employment at various industry businesses and one is going on to to university!

We at ALC are hoping to help however we can and I personally hope to introduce them to Telemark at some point. I was extremely happy to see a very nervous youngster I met last year Johnjoe. Johnjoe came over to me as he remembered me from last year and my, what a change in his attitude and appearance, THIS programme WORKS!!

So Snow-camp, thank you for hosting a very enjoyable evening, we hope the fund-raising lived up to expectations. We look forward to teaching the clients who acquired the lesson donated and hope we can give a helping hand with the apprentices at some point!
