Snow Camp Auction 2015

Earlier this month Snow Camp held their annual City Drinks & Charity Auction. The event is hosted in London to raise money by auctioning off a variety of donated prizes, all with a winter ski & snowboard theme.

Joe & I attended last year, having put up a 3hr lesson with Joe to be auctioned off . We were treated to a great fun evening where we enjoyed getting to know the young Snow Camp apprentices who were all present. These young people are all from backgrounds where skiing and ski holidays are generally well beyond the family budget and Snow Camp is all about introducing them to the opportunities that this wonderful lifestyle has to offer. Not only the fun elements of skiing and snowboarding, the charity mentor the apprentices through work options related to the ski industry, including retail, tourism and instruction (of course!).

We were so impressed with all the Snow Camp apprentices that we promptly offered the opportunity for one or two of them to visit us for a weekend.  Deana & Jasmine, two lovely young snowboarders came to stay with us at the beginning of last season. The girls were given the opportunity to see how ALC instructors work on a day to day basis and both went on to do work experience with chalet companies operating in the Morzine area.

In fact Snow Camp has a growing following in the Morzine area, with many of the small independent  operators as well as the larger businesses taking an interest in their progress. This year Alpine Learning Curves once again donated a 3hr lesson at the Snow Camp auction. We hear the event was once again a great success, raising over £25 000 in the one night and we are looking forward to meeting the winning bidder for the ALC price, Michael Evans. Congratulations Michael! Trust me Joe Beer is worth every penny! For more information on Snow Camp visit www.snow-camp.org.uk
