Ski Season 2016/17 early snow
Snowsport in November
We got pretty lucky this year, early snow arrived in bucket loads and has hung around and been topped up too.
What does that mean in real terms?
Well fingers, toes and everything else are crossed for an early opening in Avoriaz; the official date is the 9th December but rumours are for 26th November. Les Gets is planning on 17th December – so human sacrifice and snow dances to appease the snow gods!!
In the meantime we (Babs, me and Lyla the wonder dog) get the slopes pretty much to ourselves; ski touring #earnyourturns – putting skins on the base of the skis and walking the dog up the slopes and Telemarking down, on to be honest, some really nice snow conditions.
The mountain have been working hard on maintaining and preparing the slopes for either an early or a normal opening and WE are surely due a good start after a couple of pretty meagre ones. Handclaps and backslaps for SAgets.
We’ve managed to get quite a few tours in, nothing too challenging as if the snow is too deep Lyla can’t cope. We normally start at the Chavannes area or the Folliets lift and tour up to Ranfiolly and then pick the most suitable route down for us but with the dog in mind as she does get pretty tired but LOVES it and get very excited.
Looking around as you go up or down, Mt Chery looks very inviting with almost total cover but not sure if we’d take the dog on that one. As does all the bowl area and Chamoissiere runs and off-piste bowls.
What a treat, the snow combined with weather on Sunday was awesome and along with a porridge start, walk up slide down and then full Sunday roast – BIG smiley face.
