Preparing for Ski Season

Preparing for ski season is always hectic. Joe & I have lived and worked in the Les Gets/Morzine area for 16yrs now and it still always seems to hit like a steam train! One minute it’s November – bleak, silent and empty. Then bang! December arrives and with it this year’s seasonnaires! The chalet companies, bars and restaurant all begin to open their doors again and we’re busy, busy, busy!

Monday kicked off sorting out ski passes and booking our annual Christmas Day lunch at the Golf Restaurant on Chavannes. Luckily for me with all the running around to be done, no need to make dinner because Monday evening we were royally fed by the new Reach4TheAlps team at Chalet Martinet in Les Gets. It’s a great idea that many of the chalet companies here adopt, where preparing for ski season means the staff have the opportunity to practice their menus on local partners (us) and we have the opportunity to introduce ourselves and what we do. An excellent dinner provided by excellent hosts, methinks the Chalet Martinet guests will be very well looked after this year! We look forward to seeing the team out on the slopes too!

Tuesday was about visiting more chalets, touching base with our good friends Jo & Peter Halliwell of Chalet Tressud in Les Gets in the morning, then off to Morzine in the afternoon to meet the new crew working for Morgan Jupe this year.

Wednesday was mostly about getting Joe’s car roadworthy and just in time as we headed down to Le Bouche A Oreille (roughly translates as ‘The Word of Mouth) in St Jean D’Aulps that evening for Joe’s first official gig of the  season! Great pizzas to be had here at this friendly little bar if anyone is in the area btw!

Today, Thursday we’ve had some much appreciated down time to walk the dog and catch up with the admin, including writing this post.

And Friday we go skiing! Avoriaz is opening this weekend so it would be rude not be there for the first opportunity of some alpine turns in our backyard. Watch this space for a few piccies to whet your appetites!
