Loving Les Gets
There is no disputing that Les Gets & Morzine are beautiful ski destinations in Winter, but after four summers in the UK we had forgotten how stunning it is around here in summer too.
Les Gets & Morzine are generally magnets for mountain bikers at this time of year but like the rest of the alps, the hills are alive with road bikers too, sooooh many on a Sunday, the cars are almost outnumbered. Luckily the majority of French motorists are a lot more courteous to cyclists than the average Brit but that is probably because so many French cycle.
Today we cycled from Taninges to Sixt fer Cheval and back which is a beautiful route along the valley floor. No strenuous cols but a bit further that usual and some breathtaking scenery to keep it interesting! The great thing about cycling is that you really do get time to take it all in, at the same time covering a lot more ground than you do on foot.
The road runs alongside the river and all the way down there are little adventures to be had – kayaking, via ferrata, etc and paragliders are swooping around lazily in the air. But if all you want to do is relax there are plenty of little cafes where you can make a pit stop on the sunny terrace.
So that was our morning, then it was back to Les Gets for the afternoon to retreat from the heat of the day (yes Les Gets is sweltering in the current promised heat wave too). It’s too nice to stay in though, so we’ll be having the obligatory bbq on the terrace this evening (with the obligatory sundowner) which we’ll walk off with the dog once the heat has well and truly started to settle.
What’s not to love about the Alps in summer?
