Junior Ski & Snowboard Lessons

Over the summer the overwhelming majority of enquiries are regarding junior ski & snowboard lessons.
This is hardly surprising since our busiest weeks are New Year & February Half Term, which means parents have to be on the ball to book their ideal lesson times.
Alpine Learning Curves try to arrange our programmes so that our clients will get the most out of their time with our instructors and junior ski & snowboard lessons are no exception!
So here are a few pointers that experience has taught us:

Our highly experienced instructors know how to make the most of junior ski & board lessons

Our highly experienced instructors know how to make the most of junior ski & board lessons

Toddlers have a much shorter attention span than older children and require much more one to one attention. For these reasons we will only take 4 & 5 yr olds for a maximum of an hour per day in private lessons. Our minimum age for junior group lessons is 6yrs.
Children under 4yrs seldom have the co-ordination and interest to make ski lessons worthwhile. Much more fun at this age to spend time getting them used to and enjoying the ski environment – making snowmen/sliding on trays/snowball fights. Great family funtime too!!
Optimum lesson duration for older children is 2-3hrs (same as adults). This allows sufficient time to warm up and become immersed in the lesson, to make fun journeys for moving classes and to send them home tired but not so tired they are losing co-ordination or concentration. Safety & Enjoyment = Learning!
Class size is limited to a maximum of 6 students which is small enough to allow everyone some individual attention from our ski instructors. With private lessons we will be flexible on this but never with group bookings.
Although we are happy to book family private lessons because we know how precious family holiday time can be, from a developmental aspect we ideally book separate adult and junior ski & snowboard lessons. Children and adults learn at very different rates (yes they do learn faster don’t they!) but they also tend to learn in a very different way, which requires a different teaching approach. For these reasons, group bookings are separated into adult & junior groups.
At about the age of 12yrs or 13yrs it very much depends on the individual whether they will benefit more from being with adults or younger children and so we try and consult with Mum & Dad on this.
So that’s how we roll here at Alpine Learning Curves! We’ll be taking bookings at the end of August and our new prices will be published on our website soon but if you have any questions meanwhile about how best to organise your family ski time don’t hesitate to contact us!
