First Gig of the Summer by Joe

There’s no snow about here in Essex, so how to keep myself busy and occupied?

Over here in various pubs in the Southend-on-sea area there are many “open mic nights” and over the last few summers I’ve been to quite a lot of them. My local pub The Castle Inn, in Little Wakering has one on the last Thursday of every month and having performed a farewell gig there last October this year I decided to bring my “gig rig” so as to do more.

Friday June the 6th, D day 8pm was the decided date for a “see how it goes gig”. Well lots of the locals turned out and I also persuaded quite a few mates over, so the bar was fairly packed. Decided to start upbeat, then go easy for a while and then keep it rocking for as long as I could.

Set list included, Crowded House, Bill Whithers, Neil Young, Paul Weller/Jam, Bowie, Costello, Beatles, Stones, INXS, Marley, Harley, David Gray, Bryan Adams, Pink Floyd, 10cc, Rod Stewart, Zutons, Squeeze, Kaiser Chiefs, Oasis, Chilli Peppers, the Who, Thin Lizzy, Incubus, the Foo’s, Doors, Simon & Garfunkel and Snow Patrol, (so there was some snow in Essex!). With a little help from Justin the singing barman, the great staff @thecastleinn and a very enthusiastic crowd can’t wait for the next one.

Maybe next time I’ll take longer breaks so my voice lasts a bit better, cheers all, Joe THE Strummer
